The Fluoride Debate

Monday, May 26th, 2008

In this booklet, The Fluoride Debate, we have juxtaposed the arguments presented by the American
Dental Association (ADA) with comments from many of the independent scientists who have examined
the issue with an open mind. We believe that if people take the time to read and study both sides of
the fluoridation debate — especially the science that has emerged over the last ten years — they will
be appalled by the practice of putting this known toxic substance into the public drinking water. The

benefits have been wildly exaggerated and the risks have been downplayed.

According to studies conducted by the International Academy of Oral Medicine & Toxicology (IAOMT)

1.Fluoride is a toxic that used in excess may cause several health problems. “Like Sun Block. It’s topical. You don’t drink it”. Read FDA’s Warning on fluoride toothpaste. It says: Keep it out of reach of children less than 6 years of age. In case of accidental ingestion, seek professional assistance or contact a poison control center immediately”.

2.Health Effects: Fluoride has been linked to a number of health problems from dental fluorosis, thyroid problems, osteoporosis, cancer and more.

Other effects of exposure to fluoride

  • Skeletal Fluorosis
“Fluoride entering the body rapidly moves to the bones and other tissues where most of it is retained while a fraction is excreted daily.” -National Pure Water Association
  • Abnormalities in unborn babies
“Expectant mothers should avoid using all fluoridated products. Those living in fluoridated areas should consider drinking only bottled water — but check the fluoride content first.” - National Pure Water Association-
  • Brain Damage and Lowered IQ in Children
“It has been known for many years that fluoride inhibits the enzyme acetyl cholinesterase which is involved in transmitting signals along nerves.” -Waldbott GL, Burgstahler A, McKinney HL. Fluoridation: The Great Dilemma. Coronado Press Inc, Kansas, 1978. Table 11-1, p150. (more…)

Fluoride-free - “All toothpastes sold in the United States, including flavored toothpastes specifically marketed to children, contain the minimum lethal dose of fluoride…Each year there are thousands of reports to Poison Control centers in the United States related to excessive ingestion of fluoride dental products (toothpaste, mouth rinses, and supplements).”
    -Fluoride Action Network-

Fluoride-free - For fluoridated toothpastes — If the patient survives for 48 hours, recovery is usually likely. Most non fluoridated toothpastes are relatively nontoxic. Recovery is very likely.

32% of American children now have some form of dental Fluorosis, a white or brown mottling of the teeth.”
    -Time Magazine, October 24, 2005-

Excessive ingestion of fluoride during the early childhood years may damage the tooth-forming cells, leading to a defect in the enamel known as dental Fluorosis.

Recent research indicates that the rate of bone fracture among children with Dental Fluorosis (even in the mild forms) is higher than the bone fracture rates among children with no Dental Fluorosis.
